Collection: Laser Ceramic Rings

A laser ceramic ring is a crucial, consumable component in a fiber laser cutting head. It is positioned above the nozzle and below the sensor. Its primary functions are:

Signal Transmission: It collects the electrical cutting signal from the nozzle and transmits it to the cutting head's internal controller, enabling the system to maintain a precise and constant distance (capacitance) between the nozzle and the workpiece. This prevents the nozzle from crashing into the material.

Insulation & Protection: Made of high-temperature-resistant ceramic, it provides electrical insulation and helps protect the sensitive components of the cutting head (like lenses) from heat, wear, and debris.

Concentricity: High-quality rings ensure good concentricity, which is essential for accurate laser beam alignment and stable cutting.

Components and Materials :
The ceramic ring is typically composed of three parts:

Part Primary Function
Common Materials
Ceramic Body Electrical insulation, heat resistance, structural support.
Zirconia (ZrO2): Higher cost, excellent thermal stability, high density, and wear resistance.

Alumina (Al2O3): More cost-effective, good electrical insulation and thermal conductivity.
Stainless Steel Sheet Ensures contact with the nozzle to collect the electrical signal. Stainless Steel
Copper Column (Pin) Relays the signal from the steel sheet to the internal transmission line.
Copper, often gold-plated for high electrical conductivity.

Types, Brands, and Sizes :
Laser ceramic rings are generally classified by the cutting head brand they are designed for, as different heads require specific rings for proper fit and function.

Outer Diameter (mm) Common Usage / Brand
D28 (or M28)
Often for WSX, OSPRI, Precitec heads.
D32 (or M32) Often for Raytools heads.
D31
Common for Precitec Procutter heads.
D26, D30, D40.8, etc.
Various models and power ranges (e.g., D26 for medium/low power, D30 for high power).

Common Sizes :

Sizes are typically referenced by their outer diameter in millimeters (mm), as this corresponds to the cutting head model.

How to Use (Replacement) :

The ceramic ring is a consumable part that needs periodic replacement when it is worn, cracked, or if the signal becomes unstable (leading to head crashes).

Preparation: Power off the laser cutter and remove the cutting nozzle.

Removal: Unscrew the lock nut that secures the old ceramic ring. Carefully remove the old ring, ensuring the copper pin does not fall out or get damaged if reusing the nut.

Installation: Insert the new ceramic ring, making sure the copper post (pin) on the ring is correctly aligned with the induction hole or slot at the base of the cutting head.

Secure: Hold the new ring in place and firmly tighten the lock nut. The ring should be level and secure, not easily rotatable.

Re-attach: Screw the cutting nozzle back onto the cutting head.

Calibration: With high-quality rings and nozzles, re-calibration might not be necessary, but it should be checked according to the machine's procedure.
